This exquisitely detailed toe dancing ballerina with a china nutcracker at her feet is a masterpiece of workmanship. From her beautifully graceful on point pose with her arms raised and her detailed pointed fingers separated in suspended animation, to every minute detail included in her ruffled tu tu with small china roses and a tiny cut out bow at the front of the waist, this has to be one of the most perfect and enchanting ballerina figures in existence. And what raises it all to the highest level possible is that this beauty is in mint condition -- with no chips, cracks, tiny losses or even dust from age to detract from her perfection.
Dimensions = 7 3/4" high x 3" wide and deep. The rather simple mark on the bottom of her base includes a 7 point crown, a cursive D, and the words Original Germany. The best reference I have found indicates that the mark refers to the figure being made in the style of Dresden china lace figures, but most probably sometime in the 2 decades following WWII when small hand china making operations popped up to recreate the popular style of Dresden antique figures from the factories that were destoyed by WWII. By today, however, she has attained a venerable age of her own, and her fine condition after such a long time makes her particularly desireable and collectible.
This is a wonderful display piece for the ballet enthusiast, for an aspiring ballerina, or for a lover of exquisite china figures and collectibles.
