  • Details
Homer Laughlin China Co. in Newell, W. Virginia was one of the most prolific manufacturer's of bridal china for the American market during the 1940s when its sales were given a boost by the creation of a new more lasting type of final glaze process which "would not be subject to fine cracks over time". Pieces produced with the new glaze process were marked and marketed under the name "Eggshell Nautilus" series.

Pieces of patterns produced in the Eggshell Nautilus series usually include place settings, creamer sets, gravy boats, platters, teapots and other serving items. The platter in this dainty floral pattern of Eggshell Nautilus can be dated by its backstamp to 1948.

This platter measures 11 1/2"l x 9'w and is likely the smaller of two sizes of platter produced in this pattern.
It is in excellent condition for its age -- no chips, large or even "fine cracks" found in some china over time.
