WEDGWOOD PLATE, Commemorative Plate, Bicentennial, Boston Tea Party, Jasperware, Blue and White, made in England, Bisque china,Raised Relief

  • Details
There is a lot of significance to this collectible that celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Independence of our country -- maybe even more today when our freedoms are so tangibly threatened by the violence of radical ideologies. At the time of its release in 1972 this was the first plate in a series of 4 plates released in the years leading up to the bicentennial year. Another significant feature of this collectible is that it was manufactured by an iconic china maker in England, almost as if the former mother country is pleased to congratulate its former colony on its fine 200 years of independence.

The specific event leading up to our country's independence that this plate commemorates is The Boston Tea Party. The white raised relief image in the center of the design is the 'Dartmouth', an East Trading Company tea ship that was raided by the angry patriots. The spire of the old State House can be seen in the background. The thirteen stars on the border of the plate represent the thirteen original colonies.

The plate is 8 1/4"w and in mint condition. It has the familiar incised Wedgwood mark on the back. As a display piece on an easel it is a beautiful way to celebrate all our patriotic holidays and our ongoing pride in our democracracy.
