Early NIPPON China, Nippon Moriage, Green Morimuri Mark, Pierced Open Handles,Decorative Nippon, Lilac Floral China, Gift for Her, Christmas

  • Details
This early Nippon china bowl is a very richly hand painted antique with a green Morimura Nippon stamp on its back. This stamp as well as the design and embellishment places it to the period between 1909 and 1921, and the specific elements of the decoration give this bowl the distinction of being one of the more intricately decorated and artistic examples of the wares coming from the Noritake Japanese operation at that time.

The top rim of the bowl measures approx 7 1/2" wide across the side with the gently protruding curved pierced handles on each end, 6 3/4" w across the straight side, and 1 1/2" high. There are several decorative curves to the rim that create wide scallops. The rim is edged in gold all the way round with a line of raised moriage dots below it that are repeated at the bottom of a handsome brown band that has been embellished with a geometrically abstract pattern of gold lines that are evidence of the Art Deco influences of the period of its creation. The center of the bowl and the wide brown & gold band are interrupted by beautiful vairagated lilac colored flower blooms (perhaps African violets) with some of their foliage. It's all richly artistic and elegant -- a piece of china decor art that would be lovely on a display easel on a shelf, in a china cabinet or curio, or on a flat surface console piece or coffee table.

The bowl could also be used for serving candy or nuts, or maybe even lemon wedges to accompany tea. It is in excellent condition --- no chips, cracks or other damage and only minor wear to the outside gold edging.
