PFALTZGRAFF Yorktowne, Oval Platter, Serving Plate, Castle Mark, Made in USA, Stoneware, Salt Glaze, Folk Art Pottery

  • Details
This is small to medium capacity open serving platter that can go from oven to table to refrigerator, and is decorated with Pfaltzgraff's extremely popular and attractive classic colonial design called Yorktown. The platter is made with Pfaltzgraff's heavy salt glazed stoneware pottery material, and is an attractive and practical oval shape.

The platter is a very useful vessel for serving a meat main course to a small to medium sized group, and seems well suited also to certain vegetables such as asparagus or broccoli, or a platter of cookies or cupcakes. It is a neutral enough blue on grey speckled background pattern and color to mix with many other dishes and glassware.

Many things about the design and finish including the grey speckled background and satin glaze are reminiscent of the salt glaze techniques of the American colonial days, as is the hand-applied blue floral motif.

12" long x 8 1/2"wide x 1 1/2"deep. Pfaltzgraff introduced the classic stoneware pattern Yorktowne in 1967 and produced it in its plant in York, PA until economics forced the company to move production of its products to China in the late 1900s. This piece with its old castle mark was made in the York, PA factory and is generally considered much more desireable by buyers and collectors than the newer versions. The bowl is in mint condition -- great for you or to give as a gift.
